Assalam Aleikum Warahmatullahi, Wabarakaatuh.

I express my gratitude to Allah, the creator of the heavens and earth, and may peace and blessings be upon our Holy Prophet (s.a.w).

Every Sunday, during church gatherings or crusades, it is common to see pastors, bishops, and preachers casting out evil spirits. Perhaps they believe they are following in the footsteps of their great master, Jesus (May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), who cast out many Jinn during his mission as recorded in the gospels.

However, the question arises, do they really understand what they are casting out? Research indicates that although they claim to have the power to cast out the jinn, they lack proper knowledge of what they are. The only people well-informed about jinn are the Muslims. They have acquired this knowledge from the Holy Quran and the traditions of the Holy Prophet (May the peace and blessings be upon him).

THE JINN

The term "Jinn" is a collective noun in Persian meaning hidden from sight, derived from an Arabic root word meaning to hide or be hidden. Thus, jinn are usually invisible to humans, but humans are visible to them. Sometimes, they can take human forms to influence people to do good or evil. They also take the form of snakes, cats, or dogs.

What are they made of?

Jinn are made from a smokeless fire, as the noble Quran states:

And the jinn, We created before from a scorching fire.... Quran 15:27

Their habits

Like humans, jinn are creatures with free will and can choose to do right or wrong. The Noble Quran says:

And among us are righteous and among us are others not so, we were of divided ways....Quran 72:11

Also,

And among us are Muslims, in submission to Allah, and among us are unjust, and whoever has become Muslim. Those have sought out the right course.

But as for the unjust, they will be for hell, firewood.

Their food

They eat from bones. Ibn Masud reported that the Messenger of Allah said:

Someone from among the jinn called me, and I went with him and recited Quran for them. He took us and showed us the traces of where they had been and the traces of their fire. They asked him for food, and he said, you can have every bone from which the name of Allah has been mentioned as meat and all droppings as food for your animals.

The Prophet said, do not use these things for cleaning yourselves after relieving oneself, for they are food and provisions for your brothers.

Their dwelling places

Jinns live on this earth and are mostly found in remote areas, mountains, seas, trees, and the air.

The evil spirits

Jinn can be either good or evil. The good ones submit themselves to Allah and are Muslims, while the evil ones are unjust, causing mischief and harm. They do not fear their Lord; these are the evil jinn. Therefore, evil spirits are the unjust ones among the jinns, mostly found in remote areas, mountains, seas, trees, the air, graveyards, ruins, and unclean places. Concerning this, the Bible says:

And they {Jesus and his followers} came to the other side of the sea into the country of the Gerasenes, and when he came out of the boat, straightaway there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit, who had his dwelling in the tombs, and no man could bind him anymore, no, not with a chain because he had often been bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been rent asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces, and no man had strength to tame him. And always night and day, in the tombs and in the mountains, he was crying out and cutting himself with stones. And when he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and worshipped him, and crying out with a loud voice, he said, what have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, torment me not, for he said unto him, what is thy name? And he said unto him, my name is Legion, for we are many. And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country. Now there was there on the mountainside a great herd of swine feeding. And they besought him, saying, send us into the swine, that we may enter into them. And he gave them leave. And the unclean spirits came out and entered into the swine, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea....Mark 5:1-20

CAUTION

Hence, the Holy Prophet advised us to take precautions when entering unclean places, such as entering the toilet with the left foot first and saying:

Bismillahi, allahumma inny audhu bika minal khubuthi wal khabaaithi meaning

"In the name of Allah, O Allah, I seek refuge with you from all evil and evildoers".

And when leaving, we should exit with the left foot first and say,

Ghufraanak....I seek you Allah for forgiveness

Since Jinn have the ability to travel large distances at extreme speeds and interact physically with people, enchanters, observers of time, and witchdoctors rely on the evil ones among the jinn, i.e., the evil spirits, in their wicked activities. For example, observers of time and witchdoctors, whose human capabilities are limited above the earth's surface, collaborate with the evil jinns by asking them to sit in hidden stations to eavesdrop on the plans and will of God.

And we used to sit therein in positions for hearing, but whoever listens now will find a burning flame in wait for him.... Quran 72:9

When they hear anything, they carry that information to their accomplices and reveal what they have heard. So, when ignorant people visit, they pass on that little information along with many lies. These incidents used to occur before the Prophet Muhammad. However, after the prophethood of Muhammad and the revelation of the noble Quran, the heavens were guarded, and the evil spirits who love prying and stealing are now confronted by a flaming fire as stated.

But any who listens now will find a flaming fire watching him in ambush....Quran 72:9

And also,

But any that gains a hearing by stealth is pursued by a flaming fire bright to see...Quran 15:18

Therefore, whatever excuse there may have been before is no longer valid, and those who continue to engage in such immoral practices should realize they are just wasting their precious time because the information they receive is not genuine but pure lies. Also, evil spirits have admitted that:

Now they understand not whether ill is intended to those on earth, or whether their Lord really intends to guide them to the right conduct.... Quran 72:10
